The course is designed to, inter alia, deepen codicological, iconographic and cultural-historical expertise.
Výstupy z učení
The course will provide an opportunity to study the history of patrons, writers and artists, but also deepen the knowledge about book production and crafts in the Bohemian lands during the “long 15th century”.
Osnova
  • The course is dedicated to illuminated manuscripts from a very eventful period for the lands of the Bohemian crown - from the last years of the reign of King Wenceslas IV to the reigns of King Ladislaus Jagiello and King Matthias Corvinus. We learn about the highlights of the first half of the century, which were created in the artistic circles of the court, as well as examples of so-called "Hussite" book art, stylistic innovations, conventions and possible new pictorial creations. In the second half of the 15th century, the age of printing, copperplate engraving contributed to an increased adoption of German and Dutch motifs and compositions. The lecutre provides an overview of this era by means of exemplary case studies. In addition, it introduces the necessary knowledge of terminology and the technique of book illumination.
