Course objectives
Writing history II – the vulnerability of the method.
In contrast to the first part of the course which was dedicated to different methodological approaches generated in German-speaking countries, the second part will deal with their ideational and ideological content from a chronological point of view. Up for debate will be subjects such as the impact of political, ideological and personal beliefs on the history of ideas. What kind of influence has the building of nations, war and the experience of deportation or social emigration had on the thoughts of the authors? The seminar is centred on the written records of historians and sociologists, mostly from the 20th century, which we were dealing with in the first part of the course. The seminar is aimed at advanced students who participated in the first course.
