Course objectives
Students will understand the historical development of Modern Greece from the end of the Ottoman rule until current issues of modern history. They will be capable of working with scholarly historical literature and of applying the acquired knowledge while interpreting Modern Greek literature.
Syllabus
  • Disintegration tendencies in the Ottoman Empire, growing armed anti-Turkish resistance.
  • Greek national revolution of 1821 - 1829.
  • Development of Greece in the first decade of its modern existence. War decade of 1912 - 1922.
  • Second World War and Civil War of 1946 - 1949.
  • Analysis of current problem of present-day Greece (Macedonia, Cyprus and others).
