- Course objectives
- Students will learn trought lectures some known and lesser-known chapters of greek history in 20th century. We will place emphasis on political history,but we will also deal with some chapters of social and cultural history. The course is suited to broaden and deepen knowledge of modern greek history.

- ) Introduction, literature, a brief outline of the history in the 20th century 2) E. Venizelos and his contribution to the modernization of the Greek state 3) The Cyprus issue 4) History of the Greek military in the 20th century 5) Monarchy versus republic - an overview of changing the Royal Institution and the Republic 6) Emancipation of women 7) Dictatorships in the 20th century - Pangalos and Metaxas 8) Dictatorships in the 20th century - military junta 9) Murder of Lambrakis 10) Economic history of the country and integration into the EU 11) Famous people of Greek culture (Melina Mercury, Karolos Kun, etc.) 12) Occupation during the Second World War
