Course objectives
At the end of this course, students should be able to: understand and be able to explain developing of Baha'í from islam sect to universal religion, analyze basic ideas of Bahá'í and formulate main concepts in Bahá'í interpretation of politics, social system and inter-religious toleration.

  • 1. Basic delimitation of Bahá'í movement - universal religion or islamic sect?
  • 2. Islam in 19th century - mesianism and conception of mahdi
  • 3. Sajjid Ali Muhammad (Báb) and babism
  • 4.Mizra Husajn Ali (Bahaullah) - Founder of movement
  • 5. Abbás Effendi (Abdulbaha and spread of movement
  • 6. Shawgí Efendi
  • 7. Basic ideas I - religious univerzalism, prophets
  • 8. Basic ideas II - religion and science, tradition and modernity
  • 9. Basic ideas III - concept of perfect society, universal language, gender, role of democracy
