Course objectives
Main objectives can be summarized as follows: to delineate of main principles of relations between politics and religion, to analyze basic terms and conceptions, to understands of process of legitimization political structures and role of religion in this process, to interpret the differences of religious power in other cultures and societies, to explain grow of religious fundamentalism.
At the end of the course students should be able to: define basic relations between religion(s) and politics
define basic forms of religious fundamentalism
describe basic legitimization models of religion
describe basic examples of legitimization of political order by religion
translate basic models of so called secularization thesis
compose of basic imperfections of so called secularization thesis
argument imperfections of the concept of clash of civilizations

  • 3. Religion as a tool of legitimization of social reality
  • 4. Congruence between ontological and political spheres in religious thinking

  • 6. Religion and political structures I - sacralization of ruler and the state
  • 7. Religion and political structures II - sacralization of nation
  • 8. Religion and political structure III - sacralization of political change
  • 9. Process of social and political differentiation in modern society I - secularization and its impact on relation between religion and politics
