- Course objectives
- The course expands the contents of the basic course on Islam (RLA08). The seminars are focused on key problems that are mentioned in the basic course but cannot be (due to the limited time) exhaustively discussed. Discussions in seminars, scheduled according to the basic course, are concentrated on representative classical sources.
Main objectives of the course:
At the end of this course, the students should:
- be familiar with the basic terminology used in study of Islam;
- have the capacity of critical analyzing of main sources connected with the topic. - Syllabus
- (0) Introduction to the course. (1) The Qur'an. (2) Ibn Ishaq: Life of God's Messenger. (3) Ibn Khaldun: Al-Muqaddimah. (4) Abu Hamid Muhammad al-Ghazali: The Deliverance from Error. (5) Abu Ali Ibn Sina: The book of Definitions (6) Usama Ibn Munqidh: The Book of Learning by Example.
