Course objectives
During the semester students will gain the basic knowledge and skills in the area of active and passive translation of basic types of business, administrative, commerce, marketing and tourism texts. The course is focused predominantly on learning basic vocabulary, specific syntactic structures and formal elaboration of business contracts and related business documents.
Learning outcomes
After finishing the course, the students will be able to produce adequately translated texts that will be written in cultivated Czech language without stylistic and grammar mistakes and typing errors.
They will also be introduced to the works and basic vocabulary as well as terminology of selected non-artistic types of texts.

  • Translation of administrative and commercial letters.
  • Translation of administrative and administrative juridical texts, acts and documents.
  • Translation of marketing texts and advertising texts.
  • Translation of tourism texts.
  • Translation of economically oriented texts.
  • Translation of texts from the sphere of banking and insurance industry.

The course has a form of lectures and seminars (translation at home and on lessons, discussion on particular translation solutions and difficult passages from the text that is translated).

Compulsory attendance (min. 75%).
Fulfilment of assigned homework (learning vocabulary from singular types of texts).
Assignment of given translations in time.
