Course objectives
The course aims to familiarize students with the development of the theatrical genre in Spain throughout the twentieth century, from the appearance of realistic theater to the latest theatrical manifestations. Special emphasis will be placed on the importance of the realist convention and subsequent attempts to overcome this convention, as well as on the relationship between the theatrical event and Spanish society. As a secondary objective, the practice of the commentary of theatrical texts is considered.

The avant-garde versus realism. - Readings: Ramón del Valle-Inclán, Luces de Bohemia (1920); Federico García Lorca, Así que pasen cinco años (1931). five years pass (1931). 3. The postwar period. Bourgeois theater and humorous theater. - Reading: Miguel Mihura: Tres sombreros de copa (1932/52). 4. The social theater. - Readings: Antonio Buero Vallejo: Historia de una escalera (1949); Alfonso Sastre: Escuadrón hacia la muerte. 5. Teaching methods
The classes will revolve around the commentary of the texts from a certain theoretical basis that students will acquire from a) the professor's explanations in class, b) from the recommended bibliographyThe exam will be written and will serve to check the knowledge that the student has acquired of the development of theater in Spain in the last century and his ability to comment on a dramatic text.
Assessment methods
- Final exam: 70%. - Analysis of one of the works studied (or some other in consultation with the professor): 30%
