Course objectives
Slovene literature in 19. Century. The cultural and historical context. Slovene romantics and their European influences. France Prešeren. Matija Čop. Main literal forms in romantics. Slovene literature between the romantic movement and the realism in the second part of 19. Century. Main literal programs and the cultural changes: the development of newspapers. The development of prose, poetry and drama in the second part of 19. Century. National ideas in literature. At the end of the course the students should be able to recognize the literal life in 19. Century in Slovenia and they should be able to interpret literal texts.

  • 1. The history and culture in Slovenia in 19. Century. 2. Main characteristics of Romantic Movement. The influences from Europe. The German philosophy of that time and her influence on Slovenes. 3. France Prešeren and his poetry. 4. Matija Čop as the first Slovene literal scientist. 5. Slovene and Czech romantics. The year 1948. 6. The second part of the 19. Century: Slovene literature between realism and romantic ideas. “ Vajevci”. Janez Trdina. 7. Fran Levstik and his literal program. 8. Simon Jenko and his poetry. 9. Janko Kersnik and the development of Slovene prose. 10. Two concepts of Slovene prose writings. The problem of readers, the audience. 11. The beginning of Slovene drama and theatre. Josip Jurčič and his Tugomer. 12. The literal concepts at the end of 19. Century. Ivan Tavčar and Josip Stritar. Vienna circle. 13. Anton Aškerc and his influence to the new generation (Cankar, Murn, Kette, Župančič).
