Course objectives
The course focuses on innovative approaches in architecture in the 20th century. It traces the transformations of architecture from Art Nouveau and the early manifestations of Modernism, through the avant-garde currents of the interwar period to the post-war situation, consisting of the revision of interwar Modernism (Brutalism, Socialist Realism). Phenomena related to the issue of housing crises (the development of housing estates) and partial multidisciplinary specifics of architecture, which represent, for example, manifestations of nautical style metaphorics, will also be monitored.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, students will be able to:
- be oriented in the architecture of the 20th century;
- specify the different forms of modernist tendencies;
- understand the theoretical writings of key figures in 20th century architecture.
