Course objectives
The student knows basic goals and methods of linguistics.
Learning outcomes
The student understands the concept of the linguistic sign and he knows how to use it. He distinguishes synchronic and diachronic linguistic methods; uses the basic terms and method of linguistic disciplines from phonetic and phonology to morphology, lexicology and syntax.
Syllabus
  • information, communication, thinking, language and speech, goals of linguistics; linguistic fields, linguistic plans - phonology, grammatical categories, lexicology, semantics, syntax; notation of the speech, language classification (genetic, areal), language typology, historical linguistics, etymology, history of linguistics, different fields of linguistics - onomastics, sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics.
