Course objectives
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with basic concepts and selected issues of morphology in sign languages. Emphasis will be placed on providing an overview of word formation and inflectional processes, as well as comparing their morphological realization in spoken and sign languages.
Learning outcomes
The students will learn to perceive units of (Czech) sign language as complex structures. They understand the difference between phonemes and morphemes and become aware of the grammatical functions of individual morphemes in Czech Sign Language. Gradually, they learn to perceive grammar of a given languages as a system with rules and from this perspective, they are able to compare spoken languages with sign languages.
