Course objectives
The aim of this seminar is to prepare, support and control the process of developing a bachelor's diploma thesis. Students will practice the core competencies required in writing academic papers, such as rules of structured, critical and methodologically based thinking, quotation and referencing rules, and work with resources.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course student will be able of:
- Critical thinking within relevant discourse;
- Formulate academic text in accordance with formal requirements.
Syllabus
  • - From topic to resources and back – formulation of topic.
  • - State of research, context reconstruction – primary sources, literature, sources of information.
  • - Ad fontes - critique of resources.
  • - A brief recapitulation of methodology.
  • - What to do with the read text? Working with information - from knowledge to thinking and back.
  • - Economy of student‘s time.
  • - Discussion of the themes of the thesis.
  • - Discussion over annotations and resources.

Seminar, practise in academic writing.
Assessment methods
- Min. 75% attendance.
- Submission of obligatory requisites by the end of the semester:
1. Subject of the thesis - corresponding to the topic personally consulted with the supervisor.
2. Annotation - equal to the text inserted into the IS MUNI by the supervisor.
3. Subject matter - the student is required to defend the topic's choice, its relevance and necessity in the discourse. The object of research is to be understood as a problem to be solved, not as a mere subject of a description.
4. State of research - the basic assumption is the mapping of the field of discourse that already exists over the chosen topic. It assumes previous study of all relevant resources.
5. Methodology - students will introduce and explain the methods chosen for the research, including their systematic classification. 6. Goal of the thesis - to be able to follow clear arguments and verify the conclusions of the work.
7. Sources and literature - this section lists all sources (printed, electronic, interviews, AV resources, etc.). It is primarily assumed the choice of academic resources.
