Course objectives
The course takes a semester. The main part is devoted to learning the decisive principles of active teaching, demonstrated in controlled discussion based on preparatory presentations of individual students. Some time will also be given to comparing the existing secondary school textbooks and there will be concluded the specifics of teaching certain thematic blocks. The following syllabus is in each point presenting the basic theme of student presentation, after the semicolon follows a theme whose knowledge will be part of the exam (from the teaching of the classical literature towards to the contemporary literature including a teaching of the world literature and some pedagogical themes in the aplication).
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course student should be able to:
- understand decisive principles of active teaching of the Czech and world literature;
- to explain them on a critical reflection of a selected studying material;
- create their own model of an active lesson;
- use decisive principles of active teaching in their own practice.
Syllabus
  • Literature (valid for Dr. Čech´s seminar and Prof. Hashemi´s one, too)
  • 1. Active priniples of literary teaching; cultivation of didacticaly managed interpretation of literary texts. Attractiveness of literary teaching.
  • 2. Basic literary textbooks for secondary school and their critical reflection, selfstudy skills development, methodological journal Český jazyk a literatura in realtion to Czech teachers´ work.
  • 3. To didactial involvement of three main parts of literary critisism at literary lessons. Literature as a tool of emotional and social cultivation of a pupil.
  • 4. Regional moment at literary teaching, literary excursion.
  • 5. Literature in relation to other arts. Aesthetic cultivation of a pupil.
  • 6. Motivation for reading, so called cultural diary (doubled diary), testing of reading, reading discussion.
  • 7. Czech language and literature as a complex subject at secondary schools.
  • 8. Alternative didactical literature and contempory documents in relation to Czech teaching (RVP, katalog požadavků).
  • 9. Creative activities at literary teaching, importance of rhetorical skills at Czech teaching. Importance of artistic declamation as realization (and verification) of interpretaion of the text.
  • 10. Alternatives of chronological point of view at literary teaching. Pros and cons of genre and thematic approach of literary teaching.
  • 11. Parts od maturita leaving exam focusing on literature. Issues of didactical test and literary canon.
  • 12. Oral exams and testing of knowledge and skills.
  • 13. Reflection of actual problems of literary teaching at secondary schools.
  • The techniques, methods and problems mentioned will be demonstrated on selected curriculum from world and Czech history of literature.

Teaching methods
Discussion on different models of an active lesson.
Discussion on a critical reflection of a selected studying material.
Assessment methods
Credits granted on the basis of the active work in the seminar and student´s presentation on a chosen literary topic. After the presentation in the seminar, a student incorporates the lecturer´s comments on to his/ her presentation sheet + comparison of the textbooks and sends it to the lecturer before a colloquium/ exam in advance. If the final presentation and comparison of textbooks are satisfied, a student receives the record into the notebook of this course. It is not allowed to approach a colloquim/ exam without this record.
A discussion on a didactically focused article from the journal Český jazyk a literatura, as well as a check of all the problematic topics reflected upon during the seminar, will also be part of the exam.
