Course objectives
The course is designed as a lecture introducing the leading trends of both Czech as well as world literary theory to the students. The students are also provided with The Reader to Literary Theory which contains essencial texts regarded to the topic of the lecture. The reader is represented as a printed copy and as a digital copy in IS as well.
Syllabus
  • The lecture focuses on crucial periods and trends of Czech and world literary theoretical thought, such as: Russian Formalism Jakobson, Tynjanov, Tomashevskij, Ejchenbaum, Bachtin, Propp); Narrative Grammars (Greimas, Bremond, Todorov, Genette); Narrative situations of F. Stanzel and Narrative modes of L. Doležel; Possible Worlds Semantics (Doležel, Ronen, Ryan, Pavel, Eco, Červenka); Prague School linguistics and Aesthetics; Aesthetics and narratology of J. Mukařovský and F. Vodička; Narratological conceptions of the 3rd generation of the Prague School (Červenka, Sus, Doležel, Chvatík, Jankovič); Structuralism and Hermeneutics (Kožmín).

Zakončení proběhne formou ústní zkoušky, během níž studenti prokáží znalost probrané problematiky a primárních textů z poskytnuté čítanky.
