The prerequisite for the final exam in Teaching Methodology of Czech language and Literature is a successful completion of requirements for courses UZCJBE01 and UZCJBE02.

Course objectives
The course takes a semester. The main part is devoted to learning the decisive principles of active teaching, demonstrated in controlled discussion based on preparatory presentations of individual students. Some time will also be given to comparing the existing secondary school textbooks and there will be concluded the specifics of teaching certain thematic blocks.
At the end of the course student should be able to use decisive principles of active teaching of Czech language; to explain decisive principles of active teaching of Czech language; to create own model of active teaching of Czech language; to use decisive principles of active teaching of Czech language in own practice.
Syllabus
  • Within the course, attention is paid to issues of language and style. Topics are dealt with in accordance with secondary school curricula, specific features of their treatment at the secondary school level are observed, the focus being on links with communication skills training. Various methods and forms of teaching are applied to issues of language and style, including current approaches to the process of teaching with which students have an opportunity to get acquainted in courses in general didactics and pedagogy (activising methods of teaching, constructivist approaches to teaching, issues of formative evaluation etc.).
  • Topics relating to language:
  • 1. General information on language (language, speech, linguistics, Czech and related languages). 2. National language, its varieties. 3. Sound aspects of language (its spoken form). 4. Graphical aspects of language, orthography (its written form). 5. Word and its meaning. 6. Vocabulary, changes in vocabulary. 7. Dictionaries. 8. Word-formation. 9. Morphology (introduction). 10. Parts of speech. 11. Grammatical categories of nouns. 12. Grammatical categories of verbs. 13. Syntactic relations (from semantic and formal viewpoints. 14. Main sentence elements. 15. Developing sentence elements. 16. Paratactic complex and compound sentences. 17. Hypotactic complex and compound sentences. 18. Irregularities in sentence structure (specific features of sentence perspective, digressions from regular sentence structure). 19. Functional sentence perspective. 20. Cultivation of language.
  • Topics relating to stylistics:
  • 1. Basic information on style (stylistics, style, the process of shaping style, factors influencing style). 2. Functional styles, stylistic techniques, stylistic forms. 3. Colloquial style – stylistic forms focused on information. 4. Narrative. 5. Description (except for description in fiction). 6. Description in fiction. 7. Characterization. 8. Administrative style. 9. Curriculum vitae. 10. Letter. 11. Technical style. 12. Explanation. 13. Reflection. 14. Journalistic style. 15. Review, critique. 16. Feuilleton. 17. Reportage. 18. Style of fiction. 19. Oratory style – speech, oration. 20. Essayistic style. • Attention is also paid to general issues, such as: main aims of teaching language and stylistics; application of main didactic principles when teaching language and style (including the use of algorithms); the contents of curricula in primary and secondary school textbooks and its changes; the use of popularizing scholarly texts on Czech; the use of modern technologies when teaching Czech language; evaluation of essays and classification in teaching Czech in general; extracurricular forms of teaching Czech; curricular documents; school-leaving exams in Czech etc.

Teaching methods
The course consists of tutor’s explanations, of practice students’ presentations and of controlled discussions about teaching Czech language and stylistics, with the focus especially on practical applications of the knowledge acquired.
