Course objectives
The course presents from different perspectives the creation of the Quebec author Rejean Ducharme. He represents an original, hardly categorizable figure of the Quebec literary scene with an inimitable style of writing. The course will focus on his novels but his theatre plays will also be discussed.

  • - Setting Ducharme's work in historical context - Literary theories and methods (semiology, intertextuality, cliche, literary games and theory of reception) - Linguistic methods of textual analysis - Intertextual references (Lautréamont, Nelligan, Sartre, Gauvreau, Vian aj.)

Teaching methods
Lecture: description of the literary field, explanation and definition of basic notions and their demonstration on concrete texts by this author. Seminar: Application of the acquired theoretical knowledge on authentic texts. In the form of a presentation the students show their capability to connect their theoretical knowledge while working with a concrete text.
