Situace v norské literatuře před vystoupením H. Ibsena. Chronologický přehled jeho tvorby; hlavní ideové momenty v jeho díle; Problém vztahu občana a umělce (Bürger-Künstler-Problematik); formální aspekty jeho her (analytická technika, pole symbolů); srovnání s Bjørnsonem; jeho působení na některé pozdější dramatiky, mj. G. B. Shaw, G. Hauptmann, A. Miller; recepce Ibsena u nás.
