Course objectives
The aim of the course is to provide basic orientation in both theoretical and practical problems of hymnology and to create the qualification for analytical and critical work with hymnological sources.
Learning outcomes
The course VH_728b will equip students with theoretical knowledge and practical skills for independent heuristic and editorial work work with an historical repertoire of sacred vocal music as well for its analytical and critical interpretation.
Syllabus
  • The subject of the course is made up by the following thematic spheres: 1) The repertory of the monodical song - its characteristic and stratification. 2) The tradition of the Gregorian chant in the repertory of the church song. 3) The church song as a musical and literary work. 4) Cataloging of the church song as a theoretical and practical problem of the hymnological research. Teaching methods
Class (1,5 hours per week); within the class a combination of teacher-led activities and student-centered/group learning activities will be employed.
Assessment methods
The course is ended by a credential interview, succes of which is based on: 1) Reliable knowledge of historical and theoretical problems of hymnology given by the syllabus and lectures. 2) Reliable working of the task.
