Course objectives
Course description. Dr.Bočková: The seminar should provide basic information necessary for the study of the field as well as help the students develop practical skills - working with primary and secondary literature, getting acquainted with basic (past and current) literary-studies publications and magazines, and catching up with recent literary production. In its practical part it focuses on the specific features of theoretical style and its genres, and to a certain extent it uses and enhances the students' knowledge from the parallel lecture (especially in poetics). (P) Mgr. Přibáň: Introduction to Literary Studies is an introductory discipline to the study of both literary theory and literary history. The seminar should orientate its participants in the problematics of literary studies, its function and purpose; provide opportunities for them to master the basic tools of literary studies, the essential terminology of the discipline, and give them an elementary training in both reading and writing theoretical texts. In its conception of seminar papers it aims not only at enhancing the students' preparedness to make use of libraries, encyclopaedias and basic publications, but at the same time at their using their own inventiveness and originality, interdisciplinary insights, etc.
