Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to:
1) understand and explain social context of design and implementation of technologies
2) analyse information needs of organizations and communities
3) use methods of critical evaluation of role of technologies in society
4) identify features of support tools for various communities
5) apply methods of terrain data collection with support of information technologies
Syllabus
  • During this propaedeutic course are presented critical theories assessing the role of technologies in life of society as well as research methods evaluating interaction, development and use of technology. Contextualization, design and assessment of technologies in information science are introduced. Attention is paid to theories, methods and outcomes of critical evaluation of technologies and their roles in society, organitzations, civic activities and learning systems. Students use social methodology as they investigate needs of organizations and design information systems. Various means of knowledge sharing and tools for support and development of civil society are explained.
