Course objectives
The course goal is reading, analysis, discussion and own critical commentary or evaluation of various publications to the geography of Vietnam and Southeast Asian countries. The outputs comprise own written paper with its brief presentation + discussion to the presentations of other students. The course Analytical tutorial on the Geography of Vietnam and Southeast Asian countries is a profile core course of the study programme Vietnamese Studies. Content of this course and acquired knowledge will be also a part of the Final State Examination. The course is open for students of other study programmes also.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course the students will be able:
- to identify the most important parts of the texts from books and articles
- to submit and present own structured overviews of studied sources with own analyses or commentary
- to hear the discussion of other colleagues to the presentation
- to include the views of other colleagues to the final written paper

Teaching methods
Every student will read one monograph or set of articles, then will give brief report about central topics and conclusions. These points are discussed and analysed during the seminar sessions. The content of discussions and evaluation are then included into the final paper about the book or set of articles. The paper should combine the data from natural conditions (and/or socioeconomic development), methodical attitudes and different views mentioned during the discussion.
Assessment methods
active participation, self-study, draft with main points of selected publication and its presentation, then writing the final paper with the results of discussion
