Course objectives
The course goal is an active conversation and strengthening of language and communication skills. The compulsory course covers at least six semesters of study with intention to reach language proficiency on B1 level in both spoken and written communication. The content and exercises of each semester are related to parallel lectures from linguistic terminology, phonetics and phonology, lexicology, grammar and syntax. The course Vietnamese conversation 1 is a profile core course of the study programme Vietnamese Studies. Content of this course and acquired knowledge will be also a part of the Final State Examination.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student will be able to:
- use basic terminology of general linguistics in description/analysis of words, brief sentences and all their parts (and from various points of view)
- use correct pronunciation of all parts of Vietnamese syllables
- connect the pronunciation of Vietnamese syllables in segments of speech
- use the most frequent forms of greeting and introduction
- count in Vietnamese numerals
- use Vietnamese numerals in expressions related to age and prices
- know basic classifiers and vocabulary

Explanations, exercises, conversation.
Assessment methods
Written brief tests at the beginning of every lecture - 50 % of correct answers from all brief tests (including tests from missed classes) is needed to pass for final written examination. Then at least 80 % of correct answers from final written + oral examination is needed to pass the course. Note: in the case of at least 75 % of correct answers from all written brief tests, then only the oral part of examination is needed to pass the course.
