Course objectives
The aim of the subject is to provide comprehensive knowledge about electrophones. The individual tool groups, their representatives and developing types are presented based on the principle of signal generation, performance and control. This represents the primary aspect of modern organology. The phenomenon of instrument groups or selected instruments is related to the new types of musical thinking that have been profiled by artists and technology since the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Thus, the musical-historical aspect and the point of view of systematic musicology are represented. The choice of tool group representatives takes into account the popularity and the widening of individual instruments and, therefore, the opportunity to meet the tool in the practice of technical and artistic operations.
Learning outcomes
Course graduates gain comprehensive knowledge about electrophones issues. They will be acquainted with selected basic organological concepts and with the system of electrophones. They will learn about the principles of signal generation that characterize each instrumental group and at the same time obtain a framework overview of their history. They will learn about developing types and play specifics and controls for selected group representatives. The appearance of instrument groups or individual electrophones will be able to relate to the characteristic types of musical thinking and related tendencies in music starting at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
