Course objectives
Sound studies is a modern interdisciplinary project with aim to grasp and explain the function of sound in human communication and culture in general. Sound studies therefore utilizes and combines the knowledge, attitudes and methods of various disciplines, as cultural anthropology, psychology, semiotics, acoustics, musicology, and last but not least also philosophy and aesthetics. Graduate of the 1-semestral course “Sound studies II” will achieve knowledge and skills enable him/her to grasp sound as an acoustic and cultural phenomenon and use it as a cognitive tool and means of art expression.

  • 1. Aesthetics of sound and audio-visual representation;
  • 2. Acoustic space and acoustic territory;
  • 3. Sound and architecture;
  • 4. Aural memory, aural history and sound archive;
  • 5. Soundscapes and sound ecology;
  • 6. Sound environments and sound walks;
  • 7. Experimental sound practices;
  • 8. Composition from found sounds;
  • 9. How to curate sound-art;
