Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the basic legal institutes, their treatment and to familiarize them with the characteristic features of the major branches of law. The student will acquire basic legal terminology and will be able to orient himself in the system of the law of the Czech Republic, the European Union and public international law. He/she will master the orientation in the fields of law that he/she will study in depth in the following semesters of study, while also having an awareness and basic knowledge of the fields of law that are not discussed in the given Bachelor's degree programme.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course the student will:
- be able to understand and use basic legal concepts and institutes
- understand the specifics of individual fields of law, perceive them in their mutual context and therefore know how to apply a legal norm or regulation in a given field of law - will therefore be able to distinguish between different methods of regulation, including the consequences
- be able to think as a lawyer, reason and make legal judgements in the context of the specifics of the relevant field of law
- be able to identify the basic legal regulations governing the relevant field of law and know what they contain

  • I. BLOCK (theoretical-legal)
  • 1. Concept of law, system and structure of law, basic concepts. sources of law.
  • 2. The birth of modern Czech law.
  • 3. Constitutional order of the Czech Republic. Constitution of the Czech Republic. The Charter of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms. Basic national institutions.
  • 4. National, international and European law - characteristics of each system and implications of national law.
  • II. BLOCK (private law)
  • 5. Civil law - overview, system, method of legal regulation, basic sources
  • 6. Commercial and labour law - overview, system, method of legal regulation, basic sources
  • III. BLOCK (public law)
  • 7. Administrative law - overview, system, method of legal regulation, basic sources
  • 8. Criminal law - overview, system, method of legal regulation, basic sources
  • IV. BLOCK (specialisation)
  • 9. International trade law - overview, system, method of regulation, three levels of regulation

Teaching methods
Teaching will be carried out:
Due to the nature of the course, both the option of direct teaching at the faculty and the option of participation in the teaching by streaming, which has proven successful in this type of teaching, or both at the same time, may be offered. The specific option will be chosen according to the participation rate of students in other programs that have not been accredited as distance education.
Teaching will take the form of lectures concentrated at the beginning of the semester.
In addition to that, students will have access to recordings of these lectures with other study materials, which will allow them to return to the issues discussed, review the material, or deepen their knowledge that they need to enter the course.
Mutual contact and communication between students will be possible mainly through the team of the subject in the MS Teams application.
Assessment methods
Written exam. It could happen that the exam will be online and distant via the information system IS MUNI.
