Course objectives
Social security law in the European Union is a part of social policy. In this course the attention will be at first focused on the evolution of social policy from the beginning of the European Communities. The most important changes in the aproach of EC to the social policy and their influence on the primary law will be studied. The participants will study the competencies of the authorities of EC in the field of social policy anf the individual parts of the social policy. They also will deal with the regulation of the social security as a part of the social policy especially with the regulation No. 883/2004/EC. At the end of this course students should be able to understand abd be able to explain the problematic of the co-ordination of the systems of social security; be able to solve which benefits and according to which legal regulation will belong to an employee realizing the right of free movement in the Memeber states of the EU.
Learning outcomes
After finishing the course student will be able to:
- define the main objectives of EU Social Policy;
- assess the benefits and consequences of EU Social Policy;
- understand the importance of EU Social Policy in connection with the main objectives of european integration.

  • Characteristic of the social policy and its evolution; the primary law and social policy; the secundary law in the field of the social security; the authorities of EC and their competencies in the field of social security; the regulation No 883/2004/EC and the other.
