- The course will introduce the legal systems of the three major monotheistic religions (Jewish, Muslim, and Christian law) and discuss areas where the interests of the liberal democratic state intersect and clash with religious motivations (religion and health care, religious symbols in public space, etc.).
- Learning outcomes
- Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
- identify and describe specific cases in which law meets religion;
- explain the legal nature of laws issued by religious communities;
- search for legislation and case law relating to the topic of law and religion - Syllabus

- 1) Introduction to the topic - what is law and what is religion?
- 2) Individual religious freedom and conscientious objection
- 3) Collective religious freedom and autonomy of religious communities

- 6) Canon and Ecclesiastical Law of Christian Communities
- III. block of lectures
- 7) Religious persecution and its assessment in asylum proceedings
- 8) Religious symbols in public space, religious veiling
- 9) Religion in health care - patients' perspective (right to refuse consent to medical intervention, spiritual care in health care facilities, modification of the regime in facilities on religious grounds).
