Course objectives
WTO is one of the key players in the regulation of the international trade. The course will provide participants with comprehensive knowledge of the fundamentals of WTO law. Key features of substantive WTO law are: MFN and national treatment; tariff and non-tariff barriers; general and security exceptions, sustainable development; dispute settlement mechanism. Concrete operation of the WTO dispute settlement mechanism.
Learning outcomes
Student should be able at the end of the course: - to describe current trends in the area of the regulation of international trade (protectionism vs. liberalism); - to analyse factors influenced current legal regulation of international trade; - to apply the theoretical knowledge and results of the study on case; - to explain the mechanism of solving disputes in WTO.
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction 2. Protectionism and liberalisation in the regulation of international trade. 3. GATT agreement - the analyse. MFN and national treatment. Tariff only regim and exceptions from this regim. 4. Mechanism of disputes solving in WTO. 5. Case study.
