Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquaint students of doctoral studies with the necessary knowledge and procedures necessary for successful preparation of grant scheme projects. The output of the course should be processed or elaborated real grant application in the period of autumn calls (FRMU, GAMU, Specific research, IVF…). The topic of the project application will be subject to the approval of the supervisor. Students will also be acquainted with projects that have been successfully carried out at the faculty and the researchers and authors of these projects will share their experiences with the students, they will give them their recommendations and warnings of possible mistakes.
Learning outcomes
The course should bring the student:
- the ability to set up a research project plan itself in accordance with its field of study in Ph.D study,
- be familiar with national and international grant frameworks in relation to the topic of their dissertation; know who to contact,
- work correctly with text and distinguish between correct and incorrect use of tools and methodology in projects,
- be able to price their work and other costs necessary to successfully meet the set objectives,
- ability to recognize the signs of good and bad project; Know how to avoid the most common mistakes.
Syllabus
  • It is expected that the lessons will consist of the following six modules. From the second to the penultimate module, a discussion on the progress in the processing of the semester project, ie grant applications, will be included.
  • 1) Building elements of projects and terminology; legal definition and problems of grant realization in Czech Republic and EU, regulation at MU; role of PI; project life cycle; assignment of semestral project
  • 2) Orientation in the grant environment and schemes enabling the development of science and research; budgeting basics; examples of good and bad project practice; realized projects at PrF MU
  • 3) Decision-making and visualization methods:
  • a) SWOT analysis, plus minus SWOT analysis matrix
  • b) Risk analysis, risk matrix, risk management methods
  • c) Gantt chart, mind maps, flowcharts, logical frame matrix
  • 4) Creating a project in a team: principles and tools of Knowledge management, SW tools (Project Libre, MS Project etc.); Agile project management vs waterfall project management
  • 5) Methods of evaluation of grant applications and person of the evaluator; Legal Project Management; Presentation of a representative of good solving practice at PrF MU (see Teachers)
  • 6) Evaluation of semester projects and feedback; possibilities of further individual development of research competencies in the project sphere and certification
