Course objectives
The main objective of the course is to obtain basic practical skills and orientation in use of various sources of legal information.
Learning outcomes
After completing this course, student is expected to be able to: - understand basic functions of legal information systems and describe any legal information systems through these functions
- find basic legal information on the Internet
- find acts other legal documents using ASPI, Codexis and Beck-online
- evaluate credibility and validity of retrieved legal information and properly cite retrieved documents
- solve basic legal problems using the legal information systems.
- conduct 'legal research' to specified legal issue.

  • Přednášky: 1. Sources of law. Legal documents. Sources of legal information.
  • 2. Legal information systems. Basic terminology. Principles of legal information retrieval.
  • 3. Legal research.
  • 4. Czech legal information systems - overview and comparison.
  • 5. European legal information systems - EUR-Lex and HUDOC.
  • 6. Present and future of legal informatics.
  • Exercises: 1. Working with acts.
  • 2. Working with case law.
  • 3. Working with commentaries. Answering a question.
  • 4. Working with ASPI.
  • 5. Working with Beck-online.
  • 6. Working with Codexis.
