Course objectives
The aim of the course is to expose the students to various types of authentic texts - both written and oral.
Syllabus
  • Introduction Contracts - different types of contracts, essential elements, damages, other remedies Criminal law - what is a crime, elements of proof, defenses, types of crime Torts - requirements of proof, comparison with crimes, comparison with broken contracts Trusts - different types of trusts, enforcers and administrators, requirements Land law - complexity of land law, estate in English law, legal interests, land transfer, short term possession, regulation of private and public land Authentic materials Analysis of typical features of legal texts - definitions, legalese, syntactic and lexical difficulties

Assessment methods (in Czech)
The work done in seminars is based on interactive teaching. The credit test checks the acquisition of terminology, understanding the content of texts and language skills closely related to legal English - defining.
