Course objectives
Students will be able to discuss, negotiate, decide and justify the decisions in specific fields of law (e.g. setting up a business, family law, consumer law) at the level of B2 – C1 (CEFR). They will be able to write a well-structured memorandum and a formal letter. They will understand the gist of conversations on a legal topic, note down key terms (listening level B2-C1) which they will be able to pass on to a client. They will learn to understand individual steps in civil procedure and provide explanation of each of them.

  • Company law – business organizations CR and UK, company formation and management (documents), advantages and disadvantages, termination, memos Sale of goods – business to business contracts, business to consumer contract (differences, product liability), exemption clauses Family law - marriage, divorce, protection of children, case studies Civil procedure - steps in civil procedure, alternative dispute resolution: arbitration or mediation.

Requirements: Active participation in class discussion, written task submission, and final written credit test (a translation, linguistic mediation of selected legal terms and a short written text); students must score at least 70%.
