Course objectives
At the end of this course a student will be able, under the rules and procedures of an American court, to: Conduct direct and cross examination of a witness; Introduce documentary evidence using foundation laid by a witness; Select appropriate jury instructions for a specific case; Determine, in specific trial situations, the appropriate role for the judge, jury and lawyers; and Explain the differences and similarities between the American adversarial trial and Czech trial procedure.

  • Session 2 – Direct Examination Rules and practical techniques Exhibits at trial Examples for sample case
  • Session 3 – Cross Examination Rules and practical techniques Examples for sample case
  • Session 4 – Practice Direct and Cross Examination Based on sample case, students will practice direct and cross examination with critique Evaluate exhibits Practice introducing exhibits
  • Session 5 – Roles of Judge and Jury History of Jury Role and composition of Jury Instructions
  • Session 6 – Roles of Counsel and Examination Prosecution and Defense Functions Examination of participants
