Course objectives
This course aims to equip law students with the necessary skills to lead a team of high school students who wish to participate in a moot court.
Learning outcomes
After pursuing this course, the students shall be able:
- to explain to high school students the functioning of the European Court of Human Rights ('ECtHR') and the proceedings before it;
- to orientate in the case-law of the ECtHR and to pass this skill on to high school students;
- to communicate with high school students, both about legal issues and about the human aspects of teamwork and participation in a moot court;
- to provide feedback to high school students both on their written submissions to the ECtHR and on their oral pleadings.
Syllabus
  • The first part of the course consists of three seminars taught in block lessons during January and February, i.e. during the exam period. These three seminars will cover the basics of pedagogical and didactic work with secondary school students and content training in the field of European human rights protection. Afterwards, each student (or pair of students) works independently with an assigned team, and the course is no longer about teaching, but rather about reflecting on individual work.
