Course objectives
The aim of this course is to develop the argumentation and practical skills of students based on their work on a moot court case of an asylum seeker in the EU. During the moot court in international refugee law students have the opportunity to practice their legal argumentation and knowledge of law gained during the study and their preparation for the moot court. Students develop the strategy of the case, prepare the written submissions of the parties, analyze the information and materials relevant for the case, train their presentations skills and reactions to unexpected situations arising in the oral round before the jury of the court and at the same time develop their teamwork skills. The course expolres and deepens the nexus between law and facts, theory and practice. The aim of this course is to prepare students for the moot court competition – Asylum Law Moot Court, which is annually organized for the students of faculties of law in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, and optionally also other Central European countries, with the support of the UNHCR.
