Course objectives
The aim of this subject is to provide information about legal regulation of the publishing of scientific outcomes. Attention will be paid both on the standard of the "online publication", as well as on modern trends in publishing.
At the end of this course the student should be able to:
understand the legal aspects of publishing of scientific and professional texts;
conclude a license agreement (and the publishing agreement as well);
interpret and apply the free licenses in the context of the Czech legal order;
understand various approaches to publishing in the regime of Open Access.

  • I. The basic definition of IP issues and an introduction to IP rights protection
  • II. Copyright aspects of the publication of scientific outcomes - license agreement, employees works, school works, works for hire
  • III.Public licenses - introduction; use of licenses; case law
  • IV. Creative Commons License - worldwide approach; CC in Czech legal order
  • V. Publishing in Open Access regime - introduction, history and legal aspects gold and green way OA publishing)
  • VI. The Future of Open Access in the world, situation in the Czech republic and on Masaryk University; evaluation of papers
