Course objectives
The aim of this course is to introduce to students current concepts and issues of personal data protection law and freedom of information right.
Learning outcomes
After completing this course, student is expected to be able to:
- be familiar with European and Czech legislation on personal data protection
- understand the basic principles of personal data protection and to apply them
- analyze and solve practical legal problems of personal data protection
- understand the regulation of access to public sector information and its reuse
- analyze and solve the specific legal issues of a personal data protection conflict with the right to information and reuse of open data

  • Introduction. Right to Privacy and Personal data protection I – Basic concepts, jurisdiction and applicable law
  • Personal data protection online II – Rights of the data subject, Duties of the data controller and processor
  • Specifics of national regulation of personal data protection, international data flows
  • Public sector data and information - Freedom of information
  • Reuse of public sector information and open data
  • Conflict of right to information and right privacy
