Course objectives
The course summarizes general knowledge about geology (mineralogy, petrology and geochemistry), basics of geomorphology and hydrogeology, basics of soil science, principles of anthropogenic pollution of earth spheres, landscape evolution in the Quaternary and principles of interpretation of landscape evolution.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to describe the main rock-forming minerals and common rocks, to describe the factors affecting the formation of soils, describe the soil profile and identify the main degradation processes and soil factors, to identify the basic erosion and accumulation processes in the landscape, including anthropogenic influences. The student will be able to explain the basic reasons for the need to protect non-living nature.
Syllabus
  • 1. Fundamentals of Geology - rock cycle, theory of the Earth's formation, Fundamentals of geochemistry (2hrs) 2. Fundamentals of Mineralogy - main rock-forming minerals, classification of mineral mineral groups, Bowen reaction scheme, other important minerals (ore and non-ore minerals) (4hrs) 3. Fundamentals of Petrology - rock classification, igneous, sedimentary and metamorphosed rocks, Fundamentals of Ore deposit Geology (basic non-renewable energy resources - coal, oil, natural gas and uranium) (4 hrs) 4. Geomorphology and hydrogeology - major erosion and accumulation factors and landforms, Fundamentals of Anthropogenic Geomorphology (2hrs) 5. Soil formation factors, main soil formation processes, soil classification systems (2hrs) 6.
