Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the U.S. energy security, as a major actor in the global energy markets. There will The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the basics of the USA’s energy sector and its energy policies, as well as provide them with information about its position as a major player in the world energy markets. There will be a block of lectures thought by visting lecturer (details will be specified). After the completion of the course students will learn about historical development of the U.S. energy sector from the beginnings of oil industry to the present, which allows them to evaluate importance of particular resources for U.S. economy. Since the attention is paid also to the position of energy issues in the U.S. foreign policy, students will be familiarized with actors and structural characteristics of the U.S. energy sector. Thus, students will acquire a better understating of the topic, which enables them to analyze external energy policy of the USA in an informed and creative way.

Teaching methods
lectures, 4 seminars (including preparation of position papers for each of them), position papers improve the ability of students to summarize an issue and to evaluate it critically, midterm exam, final exam, readings serve to broaden and deepen the spectrum of knowledge students acquire during lectures
Assessment methods
The final grade is calculated as a composite evaluation consisting of following five parts: (1) attendance, (2) seminar activity, (3) position papers, (4) midterm exam, (5) final exam. Obligatory participation in external teachers´ lectures.
