- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is twofold. Firstly, to use strategic/market approaches as guidelines for working with case studies of the Russian, Chinese and Japanese energy policies. Secondly, to familiarize students with current trends in energy relations in Asia. After completing this course, students will be able to apply theoretical approaches to specific case studies and critically evaluate them; analyze the energy policies of Russia, China and Japan in selected regions and assess their implications; to discuss current energy trends in Asia (such as gas policies, nuclear energy development, environmental impact of existing policies...).
- Syllabus
- Mo) Introductory lecture - Growing importance of Russia and Asian countries in the energy sector; Main theoretical approaches to energy security and their application in practice; Development and existing character of the Chinese energy policy and its implications; Tue) The political and economic importance of the energy sector in Russia; The European dimension of the Russian energy policy. Wed) The Asian dimension of the Russian energy policy; China's energy policy towards neighboring countries. Thu) Transformation of Japan's role in energy relations in Asia; Current issues related to the Japanese energy policy; Conclusing remarks and discussion.

- Literatura zahrnuje: 1) povinnou literaturu pro každou z vyučovacích hodin (typicky delší zprávu z on-line magazínu či krátký odborný článek); 2) povinnou literaturu, jejíž znalost bude vyžadována na zkouškový test; 3) doporučené zdroje.
- Teaching methods
- Readings serve to broaden and deepen the spectrum of knowledge students acquire during lectures; lectures involve class discussions and require active participation; final exam (approximately 14 days after the last lecture) verifies whether students understand the substance, especially, if they are able to define and critically evaluate the energy policies of the most important actors and if they are familiar with the current trends in the field.
