Course objectives
The course provides an insight into the very basics of geological, regulatory, economic, and social aspects of the carbon capture and storage technology (CCS). CCS is considered as an important tool in decreasing global carbon dioxide emmissions, thus capable of reducing the humankind's impact on the climate change. The success individual CCS projects is derived from suitable geological conditions, favourable regulatory framework that would contribute to their economic viability, and public support on the nation as well as local level. • • The course is opened to all Masaryk University students. In an accessible way, the course will provide the students with an overview of the key dimensions of CCS. • • The lectures will be held by members of the Masaryk University Center for Energy Studies, a joint research team of the Faculty of Social Studies and Faculty of Sciences. These lectures will be held in Czech. • • The course will also feature lectures by Ollav Boland, the Head of Department of Energy and Process Engineering, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (http://www.ntnu.edu/employees/olav.bolland); and Carey King, Assistant Director at the Energy Institute at The University of Texas at Austin, and Research Associate with the Center for International Energy and Environmental Policy within the Jackson School of Geosciences (http://careyking.com/)
