Course objectives
The Course introduces students to two specific research methods applicable in the disciplines of International relations, European studies, and Energy security - content analysis and qualitative comparative analysis (QCA). It is an optional graduate Course for students who would like to broaden their research skills repertoire or who are looking for suitable research method for their Master thesis.
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to read and undestand scholarly literature which utilises chosen research methods. Students will be able to formulate relevant research questions and proceed in practical research ustilising chosen methods. Students will be able to do research by using freeware R.
Syllabus
  • 1) Organizace kurzu 2) Software R 3) QCA: set theory and social sciences, necessary and sufficient conditions, truth table, parameters of fit (consistency, coverage), solution types, solution interpretation, post-QCA anlalysis 4) Content analysis

Teaching methods
lectures, practical excercses under the lecturer/seminar tutor supervision, individual preparation of seven assignments which cover discussed methods, individual preparation of a research design proposal, readings serve to broaden and deepen the spectrum of knowledge students acquire during lectures.
