Course objectives
The course concentrates upon theoretical issues of the building of typologies in qualitative political research. The main objective of the course is to provide and advance a better understanding of making of typologies. The conditions of an effective application of typologies will also be discussed.
Syllabus
  • 1. Notion of types and typologies and approaches to typology-building. 2. Application of typologies in qualitative political research. Typologies of contemporary party systems. 3. Issues and examples of empirical and theoretical background for typologies.

Individual and/or group discussions.
Assessment methods
There is one paper required, participation in discussing the issues during consultations and final exam. The weight of the components for the final letter grade (A-F): 75% (papers and discussions) and 25% (exam).
