Course objectives
The lectures present an overview of the political systems in the Balkans since 1989 with the concentration on the Western Balkan. At the end of the course, the students should be able to describe and analyze the executive, legislative and judicial powers in all the states in the region and present an overview of the political development in the respective country since 1989 up to the present.

  • The syllabus and all materials are available in the "Study materials" on IS. Overview of the topics: Introduction into the political systems in SEE, Political system of SFRY, Slovenia, Croatia, BiH, Serbia and Monte Negro, Kosovo, Macedonia, Albania, Bulgaria and Romania.

Assessment methods
To obtain the credits, the student must 1) present a paper in one seminar 2) give in the essay on the chosen topic related to political systems in the Balkans and 3) pass the test.
