Course objectives
Writing and presentation skills are essential prerequisite for professional psychologists. This course is focused on effective techniques for communication of research results. Students will learn how to write empirical article, how to giving oral presentation, creating posters, writing grants, and reviewing articles. Course is really practical – students will practise all forms of professional communication. They will get a feedback from the class and the teacher. Course is suitable for students who are intending doctoral studies and for them who have a diploma thesis in progress.
Syllabus
  • Course content:
  • Seminar 1: Writing journal articles (Types of journal articles – review, empirical articles, and methodical articles. Logical content of empirical articles – introduction, method section, results, discussion. Clear and powerful writing – citation rules, stylistic devices. How to use the electronic resources).
  • Seminar 2: Poster and oral presentations (Talks with power-point, structure of presentation, important and less important information, formal aspects of power-point presentation. Structure of poster presentations – structure, formal aspect, technical treatment, formal and informal presentations).
  • Workshop 1: Reviewing manuscripts. Workshop 2: Oral and poster presentation. Seminar 3: Grant writing (Grant system in Czech Republic, formal aspects of grant application). Workshop 3: Evaluation of research projects and the awarding of grants.

Assessment methods
Learning takes place during the seminars and workshop where students present their assignments (writing an empirical article, poster and oral presentation, and writing a grant application). Students should attend 80% of sessions, complete home assignments, and present them during the workshops.
