Course objectives
The course aim is to provide students with knowledge and skill to make their texts more understandable. Absolvents of the course should be able to navigate academic texts, to gain relevant information from them and to share such information in a short and understandable manner. The course also focuses on the formal structure of writing and citations.
During seminars students will get familiar with the theoretical framework of writing. They will also do short exercises on writing. To gain course credits, students need to write papers which server the purpose of training of the gained skills.
Learning outcomes
After the course students will be able:
  • to identify relevant information in texts
  • to shortly a comprehensively summarize main thoughts of a text
  • to adopt their writing style to the audience
  • to integrate and compare information from various resources
  • to deal with formal requirements of writing

    Seminars, seminar discussions and exercises, home assignments and peer reviews, reading of literature
    Assessment methods
    The course consists of several topical seminars. The course credit is gained based on attendance and submission of various home assignments. To meet the requirements of the course, it is also necessary to work on regular peer reviews.
