Course objectives
The course Anthropology of art acquainting students with the way of the west perspective of seeing and understanding to art of "the other cultures". The course's main aims are to develop ability to analyse basic approaches to various types of arts. The students are introducted through visual theories, symbolic representations, etc.

  • 2. Anthropology and art - context, introduction and perspectives
  • 3. The concepts "prehistoric", "primitive" and "tribal" art
  • 4. Types of the prehistoric art, materials and technologies
  • 5. The origin of the art and the symbolic human mind
  • 6. History of the interpretation of the prehistoric art
  • 7. Fascination of the West and non-west things
  • 8. Visual culture, symbolic systems
  • 9. Elementary structures of the art
  • 10. Aplications, the Sans from SouthAfrica
