Course objectives (in Czech)
Lecturer: Professor Gary Ferraro -- University of North Carolina at Charlotte This course is a practical examination of how the variable of "culture" can affect communication and understanding between different groups of people. Topics include an analysis of the concept of culture, the nature of language, language and perception, cross-cultural variations in nonverbal forms of communication, comparative value systems, culture shock and how to avoid it, and the competencies needed for becoming an effective intercultural communicator. Teaching strategies will rely more on the lecture-discussion mode and less on experiential classroom activities.
